Snow Shovels & Garden Spades
Use Your Shovels with More Comfort & Power!
The first few times you use The HEFT, it will feel different. The HEFT is specifically designed to ease your heavy lifting, not the “loading” of the shovel.
Load your shovel in the same manner as you did before The HEFT – for example, with a fresh light snowfall, hold the ‘D’ handle with both hands and push the blade along the ground to pile the snow on the blade. In frozen or packed snow conditions, use the shovel just as you would normally, holding the ‘D’ handle with one hand and the lower part of the shovel nearer the blade to dig into the snow and ice.
Once the shovel is loaded, the magic of The HEFT happens – instead of bending over and grabbing the tool shaft near the blade to lift, this time grasp the handle of The HEFT and you will notice immediately that you are almost 12 inches more upright – more comfortable and with far more “throwing power” than without The HEFT.
With The HEFT, you are now more ergonomically positioned, using more of your much stronger leg muscles and less of your comparatively weak lower back muscles.
For snow shovels and spades, the closer The HEFT is positioned to the load (the blade end) the better.
The images below show the correct shoveling posture.
Hold the spade or shovel handle and push the blade into the soil with your foot.
When the spade is full of dirt, hold the shaft/handle of the spade with one hand and The HEFT with the other and you are ready to lift.
